Bainbridge-- Governor Sonny Perdue toured the state today promoting his program Conserve Georgia.
He wrapped up the tour at Silver Lake in Decatur county. The state purchased the more than 2,500 acres for $10 million to turn it into a Wildlife Management Area to be run by the Department of Natural Resources.
DNR Commissioner Noel Holcomb says, "Its absolutely critical in my opinion. As population grows and our greenspace opportunity dwindles we've got to have places to educate our kids about Natural resources of the state and just to have quality of life for our citizens."
The area will be open to the public for fishing and hiking August first and open for hunting August 15th.
