Albany -- The Monroe High School Golden Tornado Marching Band is trying to raise three- and-a-half million pennies, and they are asking you to help send them to march in Washington D.C. next month.

The Monroe High Band will represent Georgia at the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington May 27th. They need $65,000 to pay for the five day trip for 112 band members and chaperones.

The band has already raised about $30,000,  and are working for the rest in their penny drive. Students and staff are donating pennies at the school, and the band will hold a penny drop off Saturday at K-Mart on Dawson Road.

Band booster Roderick Jolivette calls it, "A learning experience for them. They will have the opportunity to visit the monuments as well as participate in the Memorial Day Parade."

The Monroe High Class of 1954 donated $671, sponsoring the Washington trip for Latrell Foster. They presented Foster with the sponsorship at the School, and they are asking everyone to drop off their pennies at K-Mart Saturday from 8 until 4, and help send the Monroe High Band to march in Washington D.C.
