Albany - You ever wonder how many kids would sign a scholarship if there was not any money attached to pay for school.

Sherwood Christian Academy football star Gerry Smith is one of those who will play the football for the love the game.

The Eagles star linebacker-fullback signed a national letter of intent to play at LaGrange College Wednesday afternoon.

LaGrange is an NCAA Division III school which cannot offer scholarships by rule.

Smith turned down a athletic scholarship at an NAIA school in Kentucky because he believes the young LaGrange program is where he belongs.

Gerry Smith said "I am so looking forward to it. I don't know if I have ever looked forward to anytning else as much in my life. I am really excited about going to LaGrange and getting ready to play college football."

Gerry Smith holds five school records at Sherwood Christian incluidng most tackles in a career. He was an all region performer last fall and the Eagles most valuable defensive player the last two years.
