Lee County -- A man driving a dump truck plowed into a gas tank at the Doublegate EZ Mart off Highway 82 in Lee County.
Firefighters say the breaks in the dump truck malfunctioned, and the driver had to swerve off the highway to avoid hitting cars in front of him. The dump truck's 50 gallon tank was half-full of diesel fuel.
"We were fortunate that it was diesel fuel and not gasoline that we were dealing with. And once we got it contained and got the situation under control of course EPA was notified," said Capt. Kelly Harcrow of the Lee County Fire Department.
Luckily there wasn't anyone filling up at the pump where the crash happened. Workers at the store turned off gas flow to the pump while crews cleaned up the parking lot. Lee County firefighters were on stand-by at the scene in case anything caught fire.
