Westover tennis cruises into second round

Albany - The Westover High girls tennis team opened the GHSA AAA state tournament with a 5-0 win over St. Vincents Academy Tuesday morning.

It is the 15th straight win for the region 1-AAA champion Lady Patriots.

Westover's Meredith Sellers won her match 6-0, 6-1 while number two Abby Blankenship won after losing the firs set.

Leigh Adams at number three singles won her match 6-2, 7-5.

The Lady Patriots first win in the match came from the number one doubles team of Rachael Ethridge/Lindsey Langstaff.

Ethridge and Langstaff won their 22nd consecutive match by the score of 6-1,6-3.

Talisha Thomas/Courtney Williams won their doubles match in three sets.

Westover will be back at home next week in the second round against the winner of the Columbus/Ola match.

In golf, Thomas County Central wins the region 1-AAAA title with a team score of 301.

TCC's Josh Cone was the medalist with a 75.

Lee County finished second at 331 and Bainbridge was third.

Lee County wins the girls region title and Bainbridge girls finish second.

The top two teams in each side advance to the state golf tournaments on May 5th.
