Albany -- Some of the greatest athletes in the history of the city gathered at the Civic Center Monday night for the 22nd annual Albany Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
Five new members were enshrined into the Hall this year, with WALB News Ten's own sports director Robert Hydrick serving as Master of Ceremonies.
The inductees are former Deerfield basketball star Teresa Brown, Camilla football standout Gordon Dixon, pole vaulter David McIntyre, the late Monroe running back Lester Sherman, and Deerfield-Windsor tennis ace Paul Stevens.
Former Lowndes high school and University of Georgia football star Randall Godfrey was the guest speaker, and says he remembers Albany athletes on the basketball court all-too-well.
"We never could whup them, especially in the tournament," says Godfrey. "I had my opportunity to compete against a lot of players from this area, and this is an area that breeds great athletes."
Randall Godfrey played with the Washington Redskins last season.
