Valdosta -  Valdosta State University has announced the six candidates who are in the running to fill the shoes of President Ronald Zacarri.

When Zacarri announced his retirement last year, over 85 candidates from all over the county expressed their interest in the job.  That group has now been narrowed down to six.  They are:

  • Dr. Elizabeth (Beth) Stroble, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost, University of Akron, Ohio, April 16-17.
  • Dr. Greg Weisenstein, provost, University of North Dakota, April 17-18.
  • Dr. Tom Keon, dean of the College of Business Administration, University of Central Florida, April 21-22.
  • Dr. Patrick (Pat) Schloss, president, Northern State University, Aberdeen, S.D., April 23-25.
  • Dr. Daniel (Dan) Ball, president, Lander University, Greenwood, S.C., April 27-29.
  • Dr. William (Bill) Meehan, president, Jacksonville State University, Ala., April 29-30.

Each candidate will be visiting the campus for the rest of the month, conducting interviews and getting to know the community.  The Special Regents' Search Committee will appoint the new VSU President before fall term begins.
