South Georgia Catholics say they're watching the pope's visit closely and appreciate his effort to connect with Americans.

Ligia Von Schlichten a Saint Teresa's parishioner told us tonight she is thrilled the Pontiff is in the U-S even though she won't be able to see him in person.

"When I see how the people have acted this morning in Washington, when he went to the White House. It's just awesome it's beautiful, I'm just so excited calling my friends too, you watching the Pope? I can't imagine watching anything else."

Pope Benedict the sixteenth celebrated his 81st Birthday today at the White House.

President Bush praised the pope's view of faith in the struggle with radical Islam.
