Battelle office expansion

April 15, 2008

Albany -- The Albany division of a national military contracting firm showed off their expansion Tuesday, which could lead to more jobs.

Battelle, the world's largest independent research and development company, held a ribbon cutting for their office expansion on Moultrie Road. They added more than three thousand square feet of mostly conference rooms.

Battelle opened their office in Albany ten years ago with four employees, doing $700,000 worth of projects.

Now they have 200 employees, handling more than $150 million  a year in contracts for mostly logistics work in biological and chemical defense. Battelle Logistics Services Group Vice President Ken Harper said "what we take pride in is we protect the war fighters. We provide them their protective masks, do the logistics for that, in support of the Marines Corps, the Navy, and the Army."

Battelle will host a number of conference meetings for Marine Base leaders and contractors in their expanded facility.
