Leesburg - Two baseball teammates from Dixie Youth to high school have both earned college scholarships.
Lee County Lee County infielder Jeremy Sheffield and catcher Zach Hood both signed their college scholarships in a special ceremony Tuesday morning. J
eremy Sheffield has signed with West Georgia University where his older brother Derek is a senior pitcher for the Wolves.
Over the last season and half, Jeremy Sheffield has a .435 batting average with 31 runs batted in.
Zach Hood is headed to Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland.
Hood has a 2.75 batting average and was prasied by Lee County coach Rob Williams for his handling of the Trojan pitching staff.
Before high school, the two won two state championships at the Dixie Youth Baseball level and both will be keeping up with the other in college.
Jeremy Sheffield said "There is actually a picture hanging in our dining room of us when we were 11 and we won the state championship. I kind of remembered the old times and now we are going our separate ways.
Zach Hood said "It really gives me a chance to jump right in there and start. Play two years and hopefully continue my career at a four year university."
Lee County hosts Thomas County Central in a doubleheader Friday afternoon.
