April 12, 2008

Albany - If there was a comeback award for region 1-AAA in basketball, Monroe's Dominique Gilbert would certainly have been a winner.

After missing most of her junior season with ankle injuries, Dominique Gilbert bounced back and play so good in her senior season she earned a scholarship with one of the top junior college programs in the nation.

Dominique Gilbert signed a scholarship Friday morning to play forGulf Coast Communtiy College in Panama City, Florida.

Gulf Coast won the National Junior College women's title a few weeks ago.

It is the second national title in six seasons for the Commodores.

The Commodores are getting a versatile player in Dominique Gilbert who can play the post at 6'2" tall but she is also athletic enough to put the basket on the court.

Dominque Gilbert said "They are willing to help me do whatever I need to do to get where I have got to be. I really want to go to a division one school and they are willing to work me."

Dominque Gilbert earned honorable mention all-state honors this season.
