Dougherty County -- After two years of dispute, Alltel will build a cell tower in a West Albany neighborhood.

Alltel wanted to build the tower near a Doublegate subdivision that would expand coverage in that area.

But city commissioners didn't approve of the location because nearby home owners were concerned it would lower their property values. Alltel then sued the city.

"They filed a law suit saying that the cities actions in not rezoning the property transgressed or violated the furnishing of cell sites or personal cell sites," said Albany City Attorney, C. Nathan Davis.

The city settled before the case went to court, and the tower will be built in the neighborhood. Alltel says it needs the tower to prevent customers from having their calls dropped.
