Tifton -- Tifton police shot an armed robber after he had taken hostages inside a Piggly Wiggly on North Tift Avenue about 9:00 Monday night.
Police are not saying very much, but for the employees working at the Piggly Wiggly, it was a frightening encounter that ended with shots being fired.
We're told he held the clerks at gunpoint in the office area, but by that time police were already on the scene.
During the standoff, officers were able to take down the suspect. We know that the robber was shot by police, but at this time we don t know how seriously that person was wounded or where the body the suspect was shot.
Now GBI agents were called out to investigate the case and spent much of the night processing the scene.
Police have not released the suspects name at this time and we do not know that person's condition. EMS transported him to Tift Regional Medical Center.
