Two charged in beauty salon assault

April 5, 2008

Albany -- At a crowded shopping center in broad daylight, police cars filled the parking lot in front of Adore Beauty & Braiding on Stuart Avenue.

"At approximately 11:40 a.m., the Albany Police Department responded to a reported armed robbery at this location," said Albany Police Lt. Joe Moored.

But the suspects, Jebreka Foster and Malcolm Jamal Brown, both 19, didn't enter the salon demanding money.

"Upon arrival, we learned that it was a disturbance that involved a person with a gun," said Moored.

Police say Foster and Brown went into the salon where they confronted Brown's ex-girlfriend, Jasmine Shearn. Witnesses at the scene said that Foster had a gun and that Brown was wearing a mask.

Moored said, "The subjects fled prior to our arrival. They were later located in east Albany."

After the suspects fled the scene in a green Ford explorer on Stuart Avenue, it didn't take police very long to track them down to Turner Field Road. That's where both suspects were taken into custody follwoing a traffic stop.

Foster and Brown are being held in the Dougherty County Jail  charged with aggravated assault. Brown faces an additional charge of terroristic threats.

While police searched the car for additional evidence, the motive behind the crime seems clear.

"It's got a domestic tone to it and it's a possibility that it may be a domestic violence case," said Moored.

Police say that no one was hurt during the crime.
