Blazer baseball exceeding expectations

April 3, 2008

Valdosta - Valdosta State baseball coach Greg Guilliams has not even finished his first season with the Blazers.

But the coach is proving in his first season that the future of the VSU program is very bright.

When Guilliams was hired last summer, he took over a team that was hit hard by graduation and recruiting was not going to be easy since most of the available players were already signed to other teams.

Expectations were not high when the 2008 season started but the Blazer baseball team is raising them quickly.

The team is ranked 15th in the nation after winning their 24th game Wednesday night at Georgia College  and have swept their first two conference series.

Greg Guilliams said "I just think the players are starting to believe in themselves. When you have confidence, that go a long way in playing well. I think right now we have a confident team."

The Valdosta State team takes a 6-0 Gulf South Conference record on the road for a three game series Saturday and Sunday at West Georgia.
