Dougherty County -- Some South Georgia school kids say they can do more than add, subtract, and read. They say they've got other talents.

They were on display Saturday as students of New Beginning Christian School showcased their musical, artistic and educational talents.

These talents will be taken to the Accelerated Christian Education International Student Convention in Missouri.

There, they will compete with thousands of other children, but teachers say this project means so much more than the possibility of winning a medal.

"They grow spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally. We just try to cover all areas. This is just an important outlet for them to express themselves and to enjoy what they do and to see what their talents are, said art teacher, Charity Smith.

Last year students placed in the top 15 at the convention. There are currently 92 students at New Beginning Christian from Lee, Dougherty, Worth and Mitchell counties.
