Lake Buena Vista Fl. - Atlanta Braves outfielder Matt Diaz is ready to start the 2008 season.
The former Florida State Seminole has gone from bench player to every day starter in the Braves outfield.
There is no question Diaz can hit but manager Bobby Cox has hesitated to play him everyday because of defense.
Diaz has worked to improve his fielding and may win his skipper's confidence to be an every day player.
Matt Diaz said "Your timing can get thrown off. Especially if they take a week off in between lefties sometimes. It has been nice mentally to just zone out mentally and play when your number is called."
Matt Diaz and Cairo's Willie Harris were the Braves leftfielder in 2007. Harris is playing with the Washington Nationals this year.
