Chamber Veep takes leave

March 28, 2008

Albany --   Just days after the top leader at The Albany Dougherty Chamber of Commerce resigned, the chamber is also now looking to fill the number two position.

Chamber Vice President Sara Underdown is now on long-term disability as she continues to battle non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

On her CaringBridge website, Underdown explains her doctors said she needs to rest and quit trying to do so much. The Chamber's interim President Wendy Martin says Underdown played an important role in bringing events like the marathon to Albany and will be missed.

"She really has raised the bar," said Chamber of Commerce Interim President Wendy Martin. "She's raised the expectation that we have for that position so the members of the Chamber executive committee, and then her advisory board, there is a board that is within the CVB, and so members from those two groups will be talking about how we move forward."

Earlier this week, Tim Martin stepped down as the President and CEO of the Chamber and Economic Development Commission.
