Albany siren system makes two sounds

March 18, 2008

Albany -- March is the beginning of Tornado season in South Georgia. To better prepare you in case of severe weather, Dougherty County Emergency Management has posted new information on their web site.

The siren system in Albany plays two different tones, one for a thunderstorm warning, another different tone for a tornado alert. EMA officials have put the two tones on their web site, so you can hear the difference. Dougherty County EMA Deputy Director Jim Vaught said "regardless, if they hear the siren go off, it means get out of the outdoors, get inside. Get into an interior room, preferably one without windows, and hunker down."

Emergency management says the siren system compliments a weather radio in your home, so you are as sure as possible of getting an early warning in case of severe weather.
