Valdosta - Law enforcers in Lowndes County should soon have their own crime lab that will help them conduct investigations faster.

The Valdosta City Council is set to approve a bid Thursday to start renovations of the crime lab facility located on Ashley Street.

City Engineer Von Shipman recommended the council approve the $2.5 million bid from International City Builders from Warner Robbins.

The building was purchased to be a joint crime lab for the Valdosta Police and Lowndes County Sheriff's Office.

It will allow law enforcers to bypass sending evidence to backlogged crime labs in Moultrie, Macon and Atlanta.
