Albany-- This weekend, Wal-Mart will hold its first Easter Food Drive for the Food Bank of Southwest Georgia. It's especially important because all donations the food bank gets in March and April count toward a national competition for grant money from a charitable foundation. Food Bank President Brett Kirkland said, "They have a million dollars to give out every year and based on the amount of community support you receive each year, they will give you a portion of that million dollars, so of course the more money we are able to raise at the local level, the more we will qualify to receive of that million dollars."
The Easter food drive runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Wal-Mart Supercenter and Sams' Club in Albany and at Wal-Mart stores in Cairo, Cordele, Douglas, Moultrie, and Tifton. The Food Bank of Southwest Georgia serves 300 agencies in 20 counties.
