Valdosta -- There'll be no surprises in store for the Valdosta State women's basketball team in the opening round of the Division II playoffs.
The Lady Blazers begin postseason play Friday in Cleveland, Mississippi, taking on the University of Tampa.
It's the second year in a row VSU will play the Lady Spartans in the opening round, with Valdosta State getting the win and advancing last season.
The teams also met this past November, and Tampa handing the Lady Blazers their first loss of the year, a 9-point win in the West Georgia tournament.
"With postseason play, NCAA tournament berth, a lot more energy is going to be there," says VUS head coach Kiley Hill. "Both teams know what the other is going to do, so it's going to be a battle of attrition. The one who can make the easy buckets, knock down the free throws, and definitely dominate on the boards, is gonna have a chance at victory."
Coach Hill doesn't place too much stock in the Lady Blazers early season loss to Tampa.
"It was our 6th game in nine days, and we played like it," says Hill. "It was our first loss, but we went out and won 14 in a row after that."
VSU and Tampa square off Fridat at 4pm on the campus of Delta State.
