Albany -- Larry Collins has stepped down as head coach of the Deerfield-Windsor girls basketball team, after guiding the Lady Knights to the GISA Final Four this year.
Collins will remain the assistant headmaster at Deerfield, but with increasing administrative responsibilities, has chosen to hand the reins of the basketball program over to assistant coach Ty Kinslow.
Kinslow spent the past season as the Lady Knights assistant coach, and junior varsity head coach.
Deerfield won two state titles during Collins tenure, one in 2000, and the other an undefeated season in 2004.
With five seniors graduating this year, and another appearance in the Final Four, Collins says the timing was right.
"The week in Milledgeville was doubly special, because I could remember back from the years in the past, and also enjoy this group as well," says Collins.
The Lady Knights won five region titles and made five trips to the state semi-finals in Collins eight years on the job. T
he departing head coach says it should be a smooth transition for coach Kinslow.
"This will be his team, and his program, and he'll put his signature on it," says Collins, "but the girls will know him, and his personality, and I think that part will be good for the transition."
The Lady Knights won twenty-one games and advanced to the Final Four in Collins final season.
