Albany Police investigate wrecked stolen car

March 12, 2008

Albany -- Albany police question and release a man caught running after a stolen car crash Tuesday afternoon.    The man was believed to be in the stolen car when it crashed  into a tree in a Northwest Albany park, but Police did not charge him.

About 2:30 employees at the Villager Cleaners on Whispering Pines Road noticed Haddy Wooden's Cadillac being driven away, and called Police.

Minutes later with Police closing in,  the stolen car crashed into a tree in the park at Brosnan Court, near the intersection of Seventh and Palmyra Road.  Several people in the park were frightened.

One eyewitness, who did not give her name, said  "I saw him come through here and hit the tree. Then I saw him get out of the car and run that way."

Police officers quickly picked the man up, but released him after questioning him.  Investigators say they are still looking for the car thief.

Haddy Wooden's car suffered minor damage.
