Leesburg -- The Team Xtreme youth wrestling team in Leesburg is set to compete against wrestlers from around the state, and around the world.
The team is comprised of wrestlers ages four to fourteen, and sending thirteen wrestlers to the USA wrestling state championships.
The ten and under wrestlers competed last weekend, and the older group is on the mats in Fayetteville this week.
The squad will have an even longer road trip this summer, as three of the Team Xtreme wrestlers have been selected through the People-to-People exchange program to represent the country wrestling in Holland.
Coach Brett Grove says, "They will be going up to Atlanta for two weeks. Training with Rulan Gardner, a gold medal Olympian for the United States. And he will be escorting them over to Holland, and wrestling in a tournament over there, kind of like a junior Olympics."
"That's going to be a treat, says 13-year-old wrestler Alex Davis. "That's going to be fun. He's an awesome wrestler. Couldn't learn from nobody better."
Coach Grove says this is a special opportunity for the young wrestlers.
"An opportunity like this might only come by once in a life time," says Grove. "To actually go across seas, and wrestle people from other countries, it's a very, very good opportunity for them."
Davis says, "It's going to be really awesome. I'll get to meet kids from all over the world that wrestle, and see how they wrestle. It's gonna be pretty fun."
The experience doesn't come cheap, costing about six-thousand dollars per wrestler, so Team Xtreme will be holding various fund-raisers to help pay for the cost of the trip.
