Albany -- The lines at Kohl's registers have been steady all day Sunday. And the crowded parking lot says it all. "This is the first time I have ever been in one and its a lot nicer than I thought it was going to be. A lot more merchandise and stuff," said Rhonda Kimbrel.
"I came in looking for one thing and I ended up getting something different, but it was something I needed."
"It is one of your upscale department stores. We carry a lot of designers," said Store Manager, Paulette Williams.
But for other shoppers, it's all about the discounts. "People are really cutting back. Gas is so high, everybody's money is going into gas or groceries," said Alonzo Merritt. "That's why we really didn't purchase nothing now, but I want to come back when it gets to 75 percent."
Today Kohl's held their soft opening. "We have been very excited about what's going on today. It's far above what we expected," said Williams.
"We are just opening to the public today just to try to get the rough edges out. Just the feedback that we are getting from the community today and just prior days they've been stopping by. Everybody's just welcomed us with open arms. And its just great to be here."
But variety isn't the only thing kohl's is bringing to Southwest Georgia. This brought 130 new jobs to Albany," said Williams. New jobs and a new incentive for South Georgians to shop is just what is needed to help keep the local economy afloat.
Though they are already open, Kohl"s will hold its official grand opening this Thursday and hold a ribbon cutting at 7:45 AM that morning.
