Police still search for carjacker

March 7, 2008

Remerton - Police in Remerton are still searching for a carjacker who took a business man on a wild ride this morning. The carjacker fired at his victim, but fortunately missed.

Police now have a composite sketch of a man who shoved a gun into the face of a businessman sitting in his car on Plum street around 9:00 Friday morning.

He ordered the man to slide over to the passenger side of his black Mercedes and drove off.

But the businessman was able to make a get away when the carjacker decided to stop right in front of the Remerton Police Department.

"When they got in front of the department here, the offender jumped into the back seat, told the victim to get in the driver seat and drive. When the victim got in the driver seat he was able to unlock the door, jump out and run. When he did that the offender took a shot at him that hit the steering wheel," says Lt. Matt Johnson.

The shot alerted police who put the vehicle on lookout.

Valdosta police found it abandoned about a half an hour later on East Park Ave.

Lowndes County K-9 units tracked the carjacker back to an apartment complex in Remerton where they performed a door to door search.

However nothing was found.

They are asking anyone who may recognize the man from the sketch to call them at 229-247-2320.

Anonymous tips are welcome.
