If you've heard it once, you've heard it a thousand times: There's nothing to do in Albany.

It's not really true, but that sentiment was really inappropriate last weekend, when Albany had its Mardi Gras in March, and the Snickers Marathons were in full swing in the Good Life City. There was also a big bike race on Sunday.

That weekend was a time when Albany really put its best foot forward, and seemed to take on the feel of a city that's fun, vibrant, and a destination for visitors who packed our hotel rooms.

The Mardi Gras event, with its live music and enjoy family entertainment, produced more than 8,000 tickets sales.

The Snicker's Marathon had more than 900 runners, and the Region's Bike Races had more than 400 cyclists competing.

The increase of attendance, about 6,000 more than 2007, dumped about a million dollars into the local economy, but officials say the fun the events provided and boost to the quality of life was immeasurable, and we agree.

These events don't happen without hard work, and good organization. We commend all the people and groups responsible for a great weekend, and let us all be helpful to the other activities hosted in the Good Life City. >
