Leesburg -- A group of Lee County High School students is getting prepared to compete with students from 16 other high schools in the state-wide Mock Trial competition.

Lee County's Mock Trial team has fourteen members and they've already claimed the region title 9 years in a row.

They've been practicing since October and will face-off in the state competition March 14th in Lawrenceville.

Coach Cathy Thurmond says they have a good chance to capture the state title.

Local attorneys Eddie Meeks and Louis Hatcher have been working to prepare the team.

"They're continuing to work hard. We do a little tweaking. We learn from the region and we learn from the other teams and their strategies and things they might have seen in the case that we didn't pick up on. We adjust on what the evaluators tell us we did well or didn't do well. I think we've got a final 4 team here," said Albany attorney Louis Hatcher.

The mock trial team consists of 6 lawyers, 6 witnesses and 2 time-keepers.

The case they'll compete with involves a student on trial for the sale of marijuana.

They've been practicing at the Lee County Courthouse several nights each week.
