Rams fall in double overtime to Benedict

Birmingham, Al. -  Albany State came within a minute of knocking out the top seed Benedict Tigers at the SIAC men's basketball tounament.

Albany State led 69-64 with 1:48 left in the second overtime but Benedict got a three point basket from Charles Gibbs and a jumper by Michael Holmes to tie the score at 69.

Gibbs layup wiht :24 remaining gave Benedict the lead.

Albany State forced overtime with a three point shot by James Clark with :11 left in regulation.

Tyrone Evans could have won the game for the Rams in the first overtime.

Jerrell Emory stole the ball from the Tigers and Evans scored on a jumper that tied the game and was fouled with :26 remaining..

He missed the free throw and the two teams played a second overtime period.

Evans led the Rams with 21 points.

The loss ends the season for Albany State.

The season is also over for the Lady Rams who lost to Clark Atlanta 88-80.

The Lady Rams shot just 24% from the field in the first half and trailed by 13 at halftime.

Clark pushed the lead to 16 in the second half before the Lady Rams made a late rally.

La'Toya Coard led Albany State with 27 points.

Southhaven, Ms.-  In the Gulf South Conference, the Valdosta Lady Blazers all but locked up a DII regional berth with their 65-58 win over Harding.

Michelle Thompson led the Lady Blazers with 21 points.

VSU women are 22-4 and play the winner of Thursday night's game between Delta State/Christian Brothers in the semifinals on Saturday.
