Alapaha - Some in Berrien County say their hearts go out to a truck driver who now faces charges for killing three members of their community in a tragic crash.

Charles Lott was charged with vehicular manslaughter and other traffic violations stemming from an accident in 2006.

Lott's truck plowed into a mule pulled wagon on it's way back from an annual parade in Alapaha.

Six members of the Joyce family were in the wagon, three were killed.

We spoke to several members of the community who all told us that Lott seemed devastated by the crash.

Some believe living with what happened is enough punishment.

"The covered wagon, to my understanding, was going around a sign and I don't think the truck driver had time to stop. I think it has affected him deeply. Oh, I think he's already suffered greatly," says Ruth Aycock.

District Attorney Cathy Helms says Lott will go before a judge within the next six months.
