Albany -- Just days after the GISA basketball season ended, Sherwood Christian was looking forward to next season, and introduced Matt Ruta as the Eagles new head coach.

Ruta has been an assistant coach at First Academy in Orlando, helping lead them to two final four appearances.

Ruta takes over a Eagles basketball program that has struggled since winning a region title three years ago.

"I've been a part of a lot of winning teams," says Ruta. "We went to the final four twice in Orlando, so I hope to bring a little bit of that attitude here. Not going to promise anything as far as wins and losses, but we're going to work hard, and I'm going to demand a lot from the kids."

The Eagles are changing classifications next season, and coach Ruta says it'll give everyone a chance at a fresh start his first year on the job.

"Going down from AAA to AA we'll have a chance to be successful," says Ruta. "Hopefully get some fanfare behind us, and have a good time with it."

Sherwood Christian won four games this season with headmaster Glen Schultz serving as the Eagles interim head coach.
