Boston-- State Troopers say 48-year-old Eddie Coonie, Sr. was driving on Grooverville Road East of Boston around 10:30 Monday night when he ran off the road and crashed into a tree.

Coonie's family says the crash was caused by a medical condition.   His son, Eddie Coonie, Jr. explained, "He was supposed to have surgery tomorrow afternoon to actually clear up some blockage in his legs. Some of his major veins had gotten clogged up which led them to believe he had a massive heart attack when he got in the accident. Actually the heart attack caused the accident."

Troopers say Cooney was not wearing a seat belt.
