Lowndes County hit by storms

February 26, 2008

Lowndes County - Lowndes County was hit hard by strong storms Tuesday.

People in Clyattville think a tornado uprooted trees, downed power lines, and caused heavy damage to many homes. Clyattville elementary school even implemented its tornado emergency plan.

Lowndes County Commissioners say they have extensive damage around the whole county but luckily no injuries have been reported.

"Clyattville seems to be showing the most damage right there on main street. County-wide we have about 25 active clean-up cases we are working right now and we are still very much in the recovery process," says Paige Dukes with the Lowndes County Commission Office.

Colquitt EMC said most of its customers in southern Lowndes County were without power this afternoon. They say they'll work around the clock until every home is restored.

Wild Adventures reported minor damage.
