Albany -- Hundreds of South Georgians will lace up their tennis shoes for a marathon this weekend.

More than 800 runners already registered to participate in the second annual Snickers Marathon Energy Bar Marathon and half-marathon.

Some special runners will compete on a course all their own far from Dougherty County.

"We were contacted by a reservist who is stationed Baghdad. And he wanted to shadow our half marathon over there. Basically, they are going to run our race. He didn't tell us if it was going to be at the same time or where for security reasons," said Convention Services Manager, Lisa Riddle.

There are 34 troops and six volunteers registered to participate in Iraq. They'll be get t-shirts, a medal and goody bags for running the half-marathon.
