Valdosta - Valdosta State fans are still celebrating the school's second national title in football in the last three years.
However, head coach David Dean and the rest of the Blazers are already getting prepared to defend that title this fall.
Valdosta State was supposed to start spring practice Friday morning but coach Dean decided to cancel that practice session due to a wet practice field.
Dean is anxious to get to work because the Blazers have big holes to fill at quarterback, offensive line and linebacker.
The biggest thing the coach wants is for his team to put last year's national championship season in the past.
Something he feels VSU didn't do after they won their first title in 2004.
David Dean said "That was an emphasis for the coaching staff. To get that past us and our kids have done a great job. They have been focused this offseason. They have worked very hard. They are excited about getting out to practice. They were disappointed this morning that they were not going to have an opportunity to go out."
The celebration for the 2007 Valdosta State football team will continue next week when the Blazers will be the guests of honor at the Georgia Legislature.
The Blazers spring game is March 29th.
