Albany - Someone set a fire outside an Albany apartment door overnight, trapping two people inside.

Around three a.m., Relandria Flagg heard the fire burning outside her door at Westover Place Apartments. Arson investigators say someone piled carpet padding against the door and set it on fire.

Flagg and Adrian Whearry could not get out, and were forced by heavy smoke to go onto the balcony until firefighters arrived.

"It's a very dangerous situation, because the intent was to do harm in this case. They set the fire so that the people inside could not get out," Albany Fire Chief James Carswell said.

Investigators say they believe the arsonist started the fire because of a domestic dispute with Whearry. No arrests have been made.
