Albany--On your mark, get set, and get ready to run.  On Saturday, March 1st, the second annual Snickers Marathon comes to Albany.

"With marketing and a first year of a great race, I think the word has spread," says organizer, Lisa Riddle.

And it certainly has. So far,  Riddle says more than 800 runners have signed up for the upcoming Snickers Marathon.  The runners currently represent 37 states and counting.

"Alaska. All in the southeast. California, Ohio, Wisconsin, New York, all over," says Riddle

In turn, giving a big boost to Albany's economy and attracting more visitors to the area.

"We just wanted to create an event in Albany that was a signature event that will be the biggest weekend of the year that everyone will support and people will see how important it is to exercise and maintain that healthy life style," says Riddle

Organizers hope to raise about $15,000 dollars from the event for the Willson Hospice House located on Gillionville Road.

"Which is an in house hospice facility which is being built here in Albany," says Riddle.

While organizers expecting a big turnout for the March 1st marathon, they're also encouraging involvement from non-participants.

"If you can't volunteer just go in your front yard or your neighbors front yard and cheer the people on," says Riddle.

Because it's your motivation, that will keep these athletes running for a good cause.

There will be three races, that includes the main marathon, the half marathon, and family fun run.  The event will award over $12,000 in prize money.
