Albany - We all think that our mom should be recognized as Mother of the year, but one Albany woman received that distinction from a group of her peers Thursday. Shirley Way has three grown children and was surprised, to say the least, when she was selected as mother of the year Thursday afternoon by the Albany Women's Club.

Way said, "I'm really surprised. There are a lot of other women in our club that are probably more deserving than I." Any advice for mothers to be? "Just love your children and stay close to them."

Her children Jay Way and Kathy Kleinsteuber said, "She's just the best mom we could ever have. And she's so supportive. Whatever we do she's 100% behind us. I now have two children. I never knew how smart she was until they were born."

Interestingly, this isn't the first time Way has been honored as Mother of the year. She received the same distinction while living in Savannah.
