Panic buttons hit Lanier County Courthouse

February 21, 2008

Lakeland - Lanier County is now better prepared for an emergency situation.

Panic buttons have been placed throughout the Lanier County Courthouse.

If pressed, the hidden buttons will immediately send word to law enforcers that help is needed.

Employees tell us they've had about four emergencies in the past four years and there old system made it hard to call for help.

"If we needed any help, somebody would have to get a phone in a different office and make a call. If we were alone and needed help, we'd wave at somebody if we could and try to get them to realize we needed help," says Deborah Clark, Chief Deputy Clerk of Superior Court.

They say the panic buttons make them feel more secure, especially when they are working alone, late at night and on court days.
