Shaver excited about promotion at TCC

February 12, 2008

Thomasville - For two decades Thomas County Central offensive coordinator Bill Shaver had the dream of every assistant coach.

To one day become a head coach.

Shaver never thought that opportunity would come at Thomas County Central.

But after Ed Pilcher left for Bainbridge last month, the Thomas County school board  picked Shaver to take over the Yellow Jacket program .

A move that will bring as much stability as possible in a coaching change.

Shaver will keep the veer offense and the eight man front defense.

Replacing a legend like Ed Pilcher will not be easy but Shaver says his former boss groomed all of his assistants to be head coaches.

Bill Shaver said "Coach was always good to us in that he gave us the freedom to coach and didn't intervene hardly ever. All of our coaches have been prepared to do that without him because he gave us all that opportunity."

Bill Shaver was hired to coach quarterbacks at Thomas County Central in 1994 and became the Jackets offensive coordinator the following season.
