Darton softball hosts defending national champion

Albany -- The Darton softball team has gotten off to a red hot start in 2008, winning all six games they played in a tournament in Dothan, Alabama over the weekend.

The Lady Cavs averaged over eleven runs per game in the tournament, while giving up less than four.

Darton has little time to rest, as they host Chipola in a double-header Tuesday.

Chipola is currently ranked sixth in the nation, and the defending national champs.

First-year Lady Cavs head coach David Dews says the game will be a great early season test.

"They're awfully good," says Dews.  "I got to watch them a little bit, and scout them. Awfully athletic. There's a reason why they're ranked in the top 10 year in and year out."

Sophomore Britni McCall says, "I expect we're going to do really well against them, especially since we're all pumped after the weekend. Everyone is excited going into (Tuesday), so I think we're going to do well."

Darton hosts Chipola in a double-header Tuesday at 3pm.
