Albany- It's tax time and the Southwest Georgia's Council on Aging is making it easier for seniors and low income families to file their returns.
This is Tax Aide Week in Georgia. Sixteen AARP volunteers partnered with the Council on Aging to help seniors and low income families who may need help preparing their tax returns. People who qualify need to make an appointment with the Council on Aging and bring their Social Security Card along with the necessary paperwork to their appointment.
"They have to bring with them their social security card and all of their information that would be involved with their taxes and we like for them to bring last years return because that helps us be sure we're accurate," said Shirley Cochran, AARP Volunteer coordinator.
Volunteers will file the returns electronically. Help is available Monday and Tuesdays from now until the week before the returns are due. Each appointment takes about an hour. Last year, volunteers helped more than 400 here in south Georgia file their returns. To make an appointment call (229)432-1131.
