Albany -- Members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority celebrated 100 years of service at Albany State Sunday.

The ceremony honored the first sorority created for black women. Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded at Howard University in 1908.

Several displays showcased some of the sorority's history in Southwest Georgia. And members are proud of the service and opportunities being a part of this sorority has provided for them.

"It has given me a chance to volunteer and provide service. I became a member in 1979. So it has allowed me to meet people I otherwise would not have met. It's given me a chance to give back to my community," said Delta Eta Omega Chapter President, Mollie Brown.

Children from Radium Spring Elementary and Lamar Reese Magnet school of the Arts performed during Sunday's ceremony.
