Workforce Investment Act

February 4, 2008

Albany - Young people who've had children and are struggling to pay for childcare and attend school, can get a helping hand to complete their education. Chuck Fields with Workforce Investment Act told Dougherty County Commissioners Monday morning, his agency is here to help those folks overcome stumbling blocks.

Through the labor department, people can get assistance with childcare while taking classes and even get help with gas money so they can drive to and from school. "Most people I find," he said, "really do not know how to start because they see too many roadblocks in front of them. We're there to help eliminate the roadblocks."

The goal of Workforce Investment is to increase employment retention, and earnings for employees, while making them more self-sufficient.
