Albany -- While South Georgia may not have Punxsutawney Phil or General Beauregard Lee, the Parks at Chehaw rely on their dependable weather expert Sheldon the gopher tortoise to predict an early spring or longer winter.
Saturday morning, several people gathered at Chehaw for the annual Gopher Tortoise Day.
Here they got a first hand look at Sheldon's prediction.
And just like the groundhogs, he too did not see his shadow.
Park officials say he's been right 100 percent of the time...and with those odds, it's likely an early spring will be on its way to the area pretty soon.
