Valdosta - The Valdosta State team opens a new season and a new era this weekend.
When the Blazers take the field at Billy Grant Field Saturday afternoon to play West Florida, it will be the first time in 40 years that Tommy Thomas will not be in the dugout.
The Blazers baseball program is now in the capable hands of Greg Guillams.
Guillams has his work cut out for him in his first season with only three position players back with any playing experience.
Guilliams believes it won't be long before the VSU baseball program is back at the level Blazer fans are accustomed to seeing.
Greg Guilliams said "There is always challenges. I can certainly say the players we have have worked very hard and I think they are going to play the game the right way."
Valdosta State will play Francis Marion in a doubleheader starting at one tomorrow. The two teams play a single game on Sunday.
