Broadie Field getting a facelift

Tifton -- Tift County's historic Broadie Field will get a facelift just in time for next football season.

The Tift County Board of Education picked Jones Construction Company's bid of more than $3.4 million to handle a much-needed renovation project.

"We're making repairs to the sideline drainage, more specifically lots of structural repairs to some deteriorated buildings that will have to be removed. They're just unsafe to be continually worked on. But we also have a lot of ADA compliance issues: hand rails, wheelchair ramps, rest rooms that are not ADA compliant. All of our aisles will be widened. All of our rows will be widened," said Tift County School Superintendent Patrick Atwater.

An average of 7,500 people attend Tift County High's home football games.

The project includes upgrades to stadium parking lots.

Construction should be complete by August 15th.
