Cavs ready to tee it up for the spring

January 31, 2008

Albany - The Darton Golf team returns to action when they play their first tournament of the spring this weekend at the Titan Winter Invitational in Melbourne, Florida.

The Titan tournament is the start for what Darton wants to be the road to be a fourth straight national junior college title in May.

The Cavaliers will be young with five freshmen on the roster and the loss of sophomore J.P. Putnam.

Putnam has transferred to Kennesaw State due to a family illness.

The five freshmen fared well during Darton's fall schedule but the sophomores are telling them that more than just the weather gets warmer in the spring.

Team captain Coleman Calhoun said "Try to think to let the freshmen get use to everything and get settled in. They did a great job. We have tried to tell them now is the time to start playing our best."

Darton golf coach Dale Dover said "We feel like that is a big learning situation. Now we have got to get real serious about it and try to develop some real consistency."

After this weekend, Darton will play in tournaments in Mobile, Callaway Gardens, Pine Mountain, the Goose Pond Spring Fling in Scottsboro and the Andrew College Collegiate before the region tournament in late April.
