Young Rams ready to open 2008 baseball season

January 31, 2008

Albany - The Albany State baseball team is ready to start their season this weekend.

The Rams hit the diamond for the first time tomorrow in Miami at the annual season opening historic black college tournament.

Head coach Edward Taylor anxious to see his team in action against another team with so many new players. The Rams return just two returning players but one of those is the versatile Chauncey Ward.

While pitcher Brandon Griffin, who led the nation in strikeouts last season, will anchor the Rams pitching staff.

Even with the lack of experience, coach Taylor says his team is still good enough to win the SIAC title.

Edward Taylor said "I have got some freshmen that came in and came out tops in the class. i have got some junior college transfers that are looking pretty good. So, we are looking pretty good all the way around."

The ASU baseball team won't play their home opener until February 12th against Edward Waters.
